Freeform Shape Shawl

I made this shawl in the summer of 2006. The base is an adaptation of a sweater from the Fall 2005 issue of Interweave Knits Crochet. The sweater is called "Colorwaves Topper" -- very simple with rows of dc and V-stitch increases. I chose to make my shall in lots of different black yarns, many of which were gifts from friends from the FFCrochet Yahoo list, Susan Swartz and Tracy Grawey. I added some stitches to the patternto make it a bit larger because I couldn't get the suggested gauge with the suggested L hook, made it longer than the pattern calls for, and left off the arms. I'm pretty happy with the shape of it. Then I made a bunch of motifs and sewed them on. I didn't use any specific patterns for the motifs -- just played around to get shapes I liked. Finished September 2006.
