The Four Seasons

This piece was created for the 2009 International Freeform Crochet Challenge.

All of the dolls are crocheted with yarn I made from hosiery: nylons, tights, knee hose. With a bit of irony, I made these dolls from a completely unnatural material, and yet have reused something that likely would have eventually gone in a landfill. Hosiery yarn is great for sculptural pieces because the resulting fabric is stiff and stands on its own with no stuffing. Each doll is hollow inside and contains a tag with a haiku that I have written to go with the season the doll represents. The tag is attached to the doll with a length of hosiery yarn used in the doll.Click on an image below for more pictures of each doll and her accompanying haiku.
