Lola and Lolita

My much-loved, precious Aunt Pearl and Uncle Larry asked me to make a fiber art piece for an empty wall in their kitchen that is visible from the adjacent dining room. I ended up making the seven related pieces shown here. Aunt Pearl named the larger doll Lola and the smaller one Lolita, thus giving the piece its name. The last piece, the larger butterfly, was completed in December 2012, after the others were hung and we all decided that another butterfly was essential.

There is a semi-hidden tag behind Lola's skirt that has the following haiku that I wrote as I was beginning Lola, who I made first, and which formed the theme of the work:

Fortunate are those
Who relish and revel in
All of nature's gifts.
